Carpet Art; It is one of the art branches that it reflects from Central Asia to the Seljuk and Ottoman periods and from there to the present day, which has a rich and deep -rooted cultural infrastructure.

Seljuk carpets are an important carpet woven tradition developed by the Seljuk Turks who migrated from Central Asia to Anatolia from the 11th century onwards and reached the summit in the 13th century. These carpets are produced especially in Konya, Kayseri and Sivas regions and are among the first important examples of Turkish carpet.

Features:

  1. Patterns and Motifs: Geometric patterns, stylized herbal motifs and various symbols in Seljuk carpets are at the forefront. These patterns include octagons, stars, baklava slices and various stylized animal figures. Simplicity, recurrent arrangements and abstraction in motifs draw attention.

  2. Colors: Dark tones are generally preferred in Seljuk carpets. Burgundy, navy blue, dark green and earth tones are often used. Paints are obtained from natural root and plant extracts, which gives carpets resistance to time.

  3. Material and Technique: Seljuk carpets are usually woven from wool yarn. Turkish node (symmetrical knot) was used as weaving technique. This technique increased the durability of the carpet and made it long -lasting. The Seljuk carpets in the memory collection were woven with the same technique.

Historical Importance:

Seljuk carpets are an important part of the artistic development of the Anatolian Seljuk period (11-13th century). Today, the oldest known Seljuk carpets were found in the Alaeddin Mosque in Konya and Eşrefoğlu Mosque in Beyşehir and dates back to the 13th century. These carpets are very valuable in terms of understanding the roots of Turkish carpets and are exhibited in large museums today.

Seljuk carpets formed the basis of the later Ottoman carpet tradition. Especially the wealth in patterns and motifs inspired the carpets produced in later periods.
